Zoom Static

This piece served as a performative showcase of my life in quarantine as my sculpture courses were moved entirely online in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. It is meant to feel like you are peeking in on people who have forgotten to turn off their cameras and are unknowingly on display.

These are my actual day-to-day actions as the act of recording myself held me accountable for some degree of productivity. The presentation of these recordings, however, conveys my mental state at the time. My unchecked ADHD made long-winded Zoom meetings incomprehensible, and I was easily distracted by too much stimulus even when I was bored out of my mind. These panels are unique in action but some channels have multiple videos within the 45 minute final product.

The scenes include making a small batch cheesecake, playing Animal Crossing while watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine, folding and putting away laundry, my cats (Scar and Hades) playing while I shower and get dressed, washing dishes, putting away groceries, making a batch of mango chile and vidalia hot sauce, doing a full face of makeup while waiting for a zoom meeting, working on my laptop, searching through found-object collections for sculpture ideas, and a Sunday afternoon drive with my husband that ends with a mall parking lot Cookout picnic out of the back of my car.
